Artificial tears with hyaluronic acid are an effective solution in the treatment of dry eye syndrome.

Hyaluronic acid is a high molecular weight polysaccharide which is naturally found in the human body, mostly in skin, connective tissue and eyes. Its main function is to retain water, so that tissues could stay well lubricated and moisturized. For that matter it is often used to treat dry eye symptoms.

It also has viscoelastic properties which helps her to stabilize the tear film and reduce the symptoms of dry eye, especially if dry eyes after waking up, or dry eyes when watching TV or looking at the computer.

Hyaluronic acid also helps in epithelial cell proliferation and healing of eye epithelium.

If you wear contacts, have glaucoma or diabetes, or you recently had an eye surgery, you are more likely to develop the dry eye syndrome.

The most usual symptoms are:

  • stinging, burning or scratchy sensations in eyes caused by wind or other external factors
  • eye redness caused by excessively watching of TV or looking at the computer
  • eye fatigue caused by reading, watching TV or looking at the computer
  • a sensation of having something in your eyes, feeling of sand in eyes
  • blurred vision
  • even over watery eyes can be an unusual sign of dry eye

The symptoms are often getting worse when not blinking enough; especially during the activities such as: spending a lot of time in front of computer, TV, or when reading a lot.
